Brian Johnson, better known as the “Liver King,” claimed to have achieved his impressive physique by following an unconventional diet. This diet supposedly included animal organs and intense workouts, like bench-pressing heavy weights underwater.

Johnson’s unique approach garnered him millions of followers, called “Primals,” who were captivated by his lifestyle. He even claimed that his sons were unhealthy until they switched to a similar organ-based diet, which he said cured them. Many people bought his liver supplements based on these claims.

However, in 2022, leaked emails revealed that Johnson spent around $11,000 a month on steroids to maintain his muscular appearance. Furthermore, he had built a business empire worth about $300 million, which led him to initially deny steroid use. Eventually, he admitted to using “pharmacy-grade human growth hormones.”

Despite the controversy, Johnson remains in the spotlight. Netflix recently launched a documentary titled “Untold: The Liver King,” which explores his rise and fall. The director, Joe Pearlman, noted Johnson’s keen marketing skills, stating, “The guy knows what an audience wants.”

In the documentary, Johnson expressed his struggle with this newfound scrutiny, saying he isn’t sure how to move forward.

This isn’t the first time a fitness influencer has been caught in a web of lies. For instance, UK coach Hannah Barry recently spoke out about the deceptive practices common in the fitness industry. In a popular TikTok video, she revealed that during her time as a fitness influencer, she often didn’t do the workouts she promoted. Instead, she created content solely for views, admitting, “I never really did any of the ab workouts I actually did.”

The issue of authenticity in fitness influencers resonates with many. A recent survey showed that 71% of fitness enthusiasts feel misled by influencers, leading them to question the legitimacy of online fitness claims.
