Experience the Flow: Stunning Undulating Aluminum Curtain Facade Envelops Ain Shams University Theater in Egypt

Elmaghraby Design House, along with Professor Dr. Gamal El-Kholy, has transformed a neglected lecture hall at Ain Shams University in Cairo into a vibrant theater. This project not only revitalizes the space but also showcases a commitment to sustainability by reusing existing structures instead of new construction.

The design of the theater draws inspiration from the concept of a theater curtain. The new facade features a glass wall and dynamic aluminum louvers that change how the building looks as light and perspective shift throughout the day. This approach offers both solar shading and a minimalist aesthetic, blending the building seamlessly with its surroundings while maintaining an innovative architectural language.

The theater has a seating capacity of 550 and is fully equipped for various performances and events. Additionally, two-tiered lecture halls can accommodate up to 1,200 students, making the space versatile for both educational and cultural activities. This design encourages collaboration and community involvement, enriching the campus experience.

This project aligns with a global trend toward sustainable architecture. According to a recent study by the World Green Building Council, buildings that integrate sustainable practices not only reduce waste but also enhance community engagement. By reimagining the use of existing structures, Ain Shams University is setting an example of how educational institutions can adapt to meet modern demands.
