The trailer for the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere has given us our first look at Jeremy Allen White in the lead role. Known for his award-winning performance in The Bear, White plays Springsteen during the making of his sixth album, Nebraska, back in the early 1980s. Directed by Scott Cooper, the film is based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book.
Zanes describes the film as unique among biopics. “It doesn’t start before success; it starts in the middle,” he explained. This choice allows viewers to dive straight into Springsteen’s life during a pivotal time in his career.
In preparation for the role, White is working hard on his vocal and musical skills. “I’m really lucky that Bruce is supportive of the film,” he said. Springsteen has praised White, calling him a “terrific actor” who sings “very well.” He recognized White’s dedication to capturing his essence, stating, "He’s got an interpretation of me that fans will deeply recognize."
Other star cast members include Jeremy Strong as Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, and Stephen Graham as Springsteen’s father. Graham shared a touching moment with Springsteen, recalling an emotional text the musician sent him. “His text just said: ‘Thank you so much. My father passed away a while ago, and I felt like I saw him today,’” Graham said.
The film also comes at an interesting time in Springsteen’s life. Recently, he has been vocal about political issues, criticizing former President Donald Trump and calling him “unfit” for office—a remark that Trump quickly dismissed.
Deliver Me From Nowhere is set to release in October, and it will surely bring an insightful look into the life of one of music’s greatest icons.
