Boise State Broncos Shine: Four Earn WGCA All-American Scholar Honors!

Four Boise State women’s golfers have been honored as All-American Scholars by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA). Annie Buffolino, Jillian Hui, Teal Matsueda, and Brooke Patterson were recognized for their impressive performance both on the golf course and in their studies.

Buffolino participated in six events during the 2024-25 season, contributing to the team’s victory at the Mountain Classic Match Play. This marks her second time receiving the All-American Scholar title, adding to her accolades as a two-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete.

Hui competed in nine tournaments, achieving a remarkable career-best score of 210 (-6) at The Clash at Boulder Creek. This performance is noted as the second-lowest three-round score in Boise State’s history. Not only did she help set new school records, but this is also her second consecutive year being recognized as an All-American Scholar.

Matsueda played in all 10 tournaments, boasting an impressive average of 73.33 strokes per round—an all-time high for the school. With seven top-25 finishes and a spot on the All-MW Second Team, she, too, is a two-time WGCA All-American Scholar. Additionally, she earned recognition from the College Sports Communicators as an Academic All-District 7 and a Mountain West Scholar-Athlete.

Patterson also participated in all 10 events, tying with Hui for ninth place at The Clash at Boulder Creek with a score of 210 (-6). She was instrumental in winning her matches at the Mountain Classic Match Play, leading to the team title. This is her second WGCA All-American Scholar selection as well.

To qualify for this prestigious title, student-athletes need a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and must have played in at least half of their team’s tournaments. Remarkably, 1,499 women from 403 different collegiate programs received this honor this year. This reflects a growing trend emphasizing academic excellence in college athletics.

As college sports continue to evolve, the importance of balancing academics with athletics is increasingly crucial. This year’s recipients not only excel in competition but also set an example for future athletes. By maintaining high academic standards, they contribute to a culture that values both performance on the field and in the classroom.
