Minister Y. Satya Kumar Yadav recently announced significant findings from the NCD Survey 3.0, revealing that nearly 4.9 crore people have been screened for health issues. Among those, 40 lakh cases of diabetes and 30 lakh cases of hypertension were identified.
He expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases like cancer and diabetes, attributing this alarming trend to unhealthy lifestyles and poor diets. During his talk at the Arogya Bharati Paratha Abhyasa Varg at Hindu College of Pharmacy, he highlighted the pressing issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Studies estimate that if trends continue, AMR could lead to 4 crore deaths worldwide by 2050, making preventive measures crucial.
To combat these health challenges, Yadav is advocating for a significant investment in Ayush systems, which include traditional methods like Ayurveda and Homeopathy. A proposal for Rs 1,000 crore has been submitted to strengthen Ayush infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh.
He urged the public to increase screenings for cancers, such as breast and cervical cancer, and to consider herbal medicines more seriously. By linking farmers’ organizations (FPOs) to herbal value chains, the minister aims to promote local health solutions.
Yadav shared inspiring stories of healthcare professionals, particularly Dr. Gopalakrishna, who exemplify selfless service in public health. He believes that health is a shared responsibility, emphasizing that building a healthier nation requires collective effort.
The Arogya Bharati initiative, now operational in 95% of districts, is making strides down to the block level with over 877 volunteers. Their programs, including a School Health initiative and the Ayur-AI project, aim to foster healthier lifestyles nationwide.
Recent statistics highlight the urgency of these efforts. According to the World Health Organization, non-communicable diseases account for over 70% of all global deaths. With the rise of lifestyle-related health issues, it’s clear that addressing these challenges will require innovative solutions and strong community involvement.
