Unlock Hidden ‘Performance Mode’ in Hitman: World of Assassination for Switch 2 – Here’s How!

Recently, we dived into Hitman: World of Assassination on Switch 2 and were excited about its atmosphere and gameplay. However, the performance at launch left us a bit underwhelmed, leading to a 7/10 rating due to some choppy frame rates, both in handheld and docked modes. Fortunately, some keen researchers at Digital Foundry discovered an unofficial ‘performance mode’ that might help improve things.

According to Richard Leadbetter from Digital Foundry, a player found that changing the console resolution from 4K to 720p made a huge difference in performance. The game ran much smoother, particularly in the Hawkes Bay mission. In one of their tests on Whittleton Creek, the framerate jumped from about 46.88fps at 4K to 59.95fps at 720p, which is a 62.5% increase. This shows how important resolution is for smoother gameplay.

At 1080p, the results get even more intriguing. Despite running at a lower resolution, the game seemed to render at a slightly higher pixel count, suggesting that it might be using some form of upscaling technology. Leadbetter pointed out he wasn’t sure if Hitman employed DLSS, yet noted some rounded edges in graphics that were unusual for traditional upscaling.

Another level they examined, Berlin, showed a performance jump of about 61% when dropping to 720p, while at 1080p, performance improved by 9%. In crowded zones, like the Paris fashion show, the framerate increased from 35fps to around 45fps. While these numbers might not be overwhelming, they still signify notable enhancements.

Interestingly, this potential workaround isn’t officially labeled as a performance mode, which means players might not hear much from the developers about it. Yet, these adjustments can lead to a better gaming experience, especially for those willing to tweak their settings.

IO Interactive has acknowledged performance issues and is working hard to improve them on Switch 2. This effort could lead to better graphics without sacrificing frame rates in the future.

Overall, gamers who enjoy Hitman might find it worth experimenting with their settings for a more fluid gameplay experience. How about you? Have you given these tweaks a try? Let us know!
