Belmont University recently opened the first phase of its Music Row expansion on August 12, just in time for the new school year. This exciting development was made possible by a generous $58 million donation from music industry legend Mike Curb and the Mike Curb Foundation. The renovated Buddy Lee Attractions/Capitol Records building now features 17,000 square feet dedicated to songwriting rooms, listening areas, live sound classrooms, and student lounges.
University President Dr. Greg Jones expressed that this venture highlights Belmont’s mission to blend industry history with educational innovation. He mentioned, “The opening represents our shared vision to preserve Music Row’s legacy while preparing students for the future.”
Dean Brittany Schaffer noted that Belmont plays a vital role in shaping future music and entertainment leaders. She highlighted Music Row as “the epicenter of America’s creative heartbeat,” where education meets industry.
The renovation includes modern classrooms and offices for Nashville’s Leadership Music. When combined with Belmont’s existing facilities at 34 Music Square E., the university now utilizes 37,007 square feet to educate aspiring professionals in the entertainment sector.
Moreover, Belmont collaborated with the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame to display unique artwork and memorabilia throughout the building. This includes charcoal portraits of Hall of Fame inductees and handwritten lyrics from well-known songwriters, serving to inspire both students and professionals.
Looking ahead, Phase Two will expand further with a new 71,900-square-foot facility designed to support the entire entertainment ecosystem. This initiative is part of a broader campaign aimed at fostering more collaboration and innovation within the industry.
Supporting data backs Belmont’s mission. A recent survey showed that 75% of students in music and entertainment programs value hands-on learning experiences. This shows a growing need for facilities that reflect real-world industry environments.
Overall, Belmont University continues to solidify its position as a leader in music and entertainment education, preparing students to make significant contributions to this iconic industry.
