Xiaomi has introduced the 15T and 15T Pro, two impressive phones. They might seem overshadowed by the upcoming 17 series, which will feature even more advanced technology. However, the 15T models offer a solid blend of performance and value.
These phones follow the launch of the 15 and 15 Pro, which debuted in China in October 2024. This new launch targets a global audience, including Europe. Interestingly, Xiaomi is skipping the 16 series to streamline its naming convention, similar to Apple’s strategy.
The 15T phones are powered by MediaTek chips: the Dimensity 8400-Ultra for the 15T and the more robust Dimensity 9400 Plus for the Pro. Both come with 12GB of RAM and storage options up to 512GB for the regular model and 1TB for the Pro, resulting in pretty powerful devices.
In terms of design, both models have a 6.83-inch OLED screen, slightly larger than their predecessors. They’re also sleek, measuring under 8mm in thickness. While my review units came in rose gold and mocha gold, they’re also available in classic black and gray.
Battery life is impressive, with both phones housing a 5,500mAh battery. The Pro model supports wireless charging and has performed exceptionally well, lasting through long days filled with activities without dropping much below 50%.
Camera performance stands out. The Pro’s 50-megapixel main camera is notably effective, alongside a 12-megapixel ultrawide and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens. While it doesn’t quite reach the level of Xiaomi’s Ultra models, it competes well. The regular 15T relies on different sensors, featuring a faster 32-megapixel selfie camera but with a more limited telephoto lens, offering 2x zoom instead of 5x.
A unique feature of these models is support for satellite voice calls, allowing users to connect without cell service or Wi-Fi. However, currently, you can only call other 15T users, which limits its utility.
The 15T Pro starts at £649 (about $870), while the 15T begins at £549 (around $740). Xiaomi’s focus remains on providing solid specs and features at competitive prices, continuing to position itself as a strong player in the smartphone market.
In recent surveys, customer preference for well-rounded mid-range phones has surged, indicating that many buyers prioritize value without compromising on key features. As Xiaomi moves forward, their ability to offer innovative technology at sensible price points will be key to capturing this market.
