On October 11, the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sachet docked in Maputo, Mozambique. This visit is part of a broader mission to strengthen maritime ties in Africa. ICGS Sachet is not just a patrol vessel; it’s also serving a humanitarian purpose. The ship is carrying 20 metric tons of disaster relief supplies, including medical equipment and medicines, which will be handed over to Mozambican authorities. This support is crucial, especially in enhancing Mozambique’s public health and disaster management efforts.

While in Maputo, the crew will participate in training sessions with Mozambican agencies. They’ll cover important areas like Marine Pollution Response (MPR) and Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR). The activities include on-board training for operations like Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) and conducting pollution response drills. These interactions not only boost skills but also strengthen friendship between the two nations’ maritime forces.

The crew is also engaging in community service projects, including beach clean-ups and marine awareness programs, in collaboration with local youth. These efforts are part of India’s ‘Puneet Sagar Abhiyan’, a campaign aimed at reducing marine pollution and raising environmental awareness.

Recent studies indicate that countries are increasingly valuing maritime partnerships to enhance security and environmental protection. According to a survey by the International Maritime Organization, about 85% of respondents believe that such collaborations can lead to better resource management and disaster resilience.
