Georgetown University has clinched the BIG EAST Presidents’ Award for the 2024-25 academic year, an honor created to recognize schools that shine in academics, athletics, and community involvement. This is Georgetown’s fourth time winning this award since its launch in 2015.
The selection committee, made up of representatives from all BIG EAST schools, chose Georgetown based on its achievements across these three areas. BIG EAST Commissioner Val Ackerman expressed admiration for Georgetown, highlighting the university’s commitment to nurturing student-athletes who excel beyond sports.
Interim President Robert M. Groves celebrated the win, crediting the hardworking students and dedicated staff who embody Georgetown’s values of excellence. Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lee Reed echoed those sentiments, emphasizing that this accolade reflects the spirit of the entire campus community.
Georgetown has achieved impressive results in various areas:
Academics
- The university boasts a 98 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR), with 14 teams earning a perfect score.
- Student-athletes achieved an average GPA of 3.51.
- During the spring semester, 373 students maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with 42 achieving a perfect 4.0.
- Numerous academic honors were awarded, including a College Sports Communicators Academic All-American and 22 Academic All-District winners.
Athletics
- Georgetown ranked 64th in the Learfield Director’s Cup, the best since the 2020-21 season.
- Four teams won BIG EAST Championships, and two secured regular season titles. Notably, 20 student-athletes claimed BIG EAST individual titles.
- The university celebrated 24 major award winners in the conference and recorded 23 All-American students. Moreover, nine teams competed in NCAA Championships, with Abel Teffra winning the NCAA title in the men’s indoor mile.
Citizenship
- Georgetown’s student-athletes and coaches participated in various civic projects, enhancing their community engagement.
- The Hoya Fall Formation program helped new student-athletes transition into university life, led by over 200 peer mentors.
- Georgetown also facilitated visits to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, showcasing its commitment to education and community involvement.
- Teams engaged in discussions on anti-racism, emphasizing a commitment to social responsibility.
- Students contributed to several charitable organizations, including Team IMPACT, A Night to Shine, The Grassroots Project, and Cycle for Survival.
