Thick fog has given Russian troops an advantage in their attempt to seize the strategic city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine. The dense weather has allowed Moscow to increase troop movements and encircle Ukrainian forces. A viral video shows Russian soldiers navigating through the fog in civilian vehicles, highlighting their attempts to push deeper into the city. The BBC verified that the video was recorded on the outskirts of Pokrovsk, specifically along the Selidove-Pokrovsk highway.
Visibility issues have hampered Ukrainian aerial surveillance, according to a drone pilot from the 68th brigade. He mentioned that the fog allowed Russian forces to operate more boldly than usual, attempting to advance in columns that would typically be targeted by Ukrainian drones.

Ukrainian military analyst Kostyantyn Mashovets stated that Russian tactics include infiltration and disguise, aiming to create chaos that paves the way for larger assaults.
Recent aerial surveys indicate that conflict hotspots extend beyond Pokrovsk, affecting regions like Kupyansk and Zapporizhzhya. While Russian claims of encircling Kupyansk were denied, military officials acknowledge the challenging circumstances faced by Ukrainian forces there.
