South Dakota State Women’s Basketball Dominates Murray State
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State women’s basketball team celebrated a strong victory against Murray State, winning 91-60 in their last home game until December. With this win, SDSU improved to 3-0, while Murray State’s record stands at 1-1.
Despite a sluggish start, where they only scored 10 points in the first quarter and trailed 15-10, the Jackrabbits rallied to outscore the Racers by an impressive 81-45 over the remaining three periods. They finished the game shooting 58% from the field, improving significantly after the first quarter. An impressive 18-0 run, highlighted by Ellie Colbeck’s performance, helped them take control of the game.
Defensively, SDSU excelled too, limiting Murray State to just 29% shooting and recording nine blocks. Notably, the Racers, known for their free throw proficiency, managed to make 13 out of 15 free throws.
SDSU had a balanced offensive attack with five players scoring in double figures. Brooklyn Meyer shone with 24 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including a perfect 6-for-6 in the second half. She also led the team with seven rebounds, five blocks, and four assists. Other key contributors included Colbeck with 12 points, Mahli Abdouch with 11 points, and newcomer Hadley Thul, who added 10 points, showcasing her skills with several second chance points. Madison Mathiowetz also chipped in with 10 points, along with five rebounds and two steals.
The Jackrabbits exhibited excellent teamwork, dishing out a season-high 19 assists, a testament to their cohesive play.
Murray State’s Haven Ford scored 17 points, while Sharnecce Currie-Jelks added 14 points and eight rebounds.
