For over ten years, the Care Alliance Health Center has run its Turkey and Food Giveaway. With rising food insecurity and delays in SNAP benefits, this year’s event is especially vital.
On Saturday, November 15, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., families in Cleveland can pick up turkeys, nonperishable items, and household goods at Care Alliance’s Central Clinic, located at 2916 Central Ave. This initiative targets residents of Central, Buckeye, Woodland Hills, Mt. Pleasant, and nearby neighborhoods.
Dr. Ken J.A. Griffin, president and CEO of Care Alliance, highlights the struggle many families face. “For many we serve, this isn’t just a holiday issue—it’s a daily challenge,” he explains. “When SNAP benefits are reduced and grocery prices increase, families face tough choices.” This food giveaway aims to support those in need and show that the community stands together.
Community leaders like Cuyahoga County Council member Meredith M. Turner strongly advocate for such efforts. She plans to join the upcoming event, emphasizing that “Food is care. It is dignity.” Turner appreciates the collaboration with Care Alliance, saying it helps ensure families feel valued and supported during the holidays.
The partnership between Care Alliance and organizations such as Tri-C Corporate College is crucial. Renée Tramble Richard, chair of Care Alliance’s board of directors, expresses pride in these efforts. “Every family deserves a warm meal during the holidays,” she states, reinforcing the mission to provide nutritious food and foster community strength.
This initiative is part of a larger movement. According to the USDA, over 10% of U.S. households faced food insecurity in 2021. This statistic underscores the growing need for support in communities. As food prices and living costs rise, events like the Turkey and Food Giveaway become essential lifelines.
Volunteers and staff will be on hand to assist with the distribution. Everyone is welcome, but supplies are limited.
