ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Michigan women’s tennis team is ready to shine at the NCAA Singles Championship. Piper Charney and Lily Jones will head to the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Florida, for the competition running from November 18 to November 23.
This marks the second consecutive year that Charney and Jones will represent Michigan at this prestigious event, making it the 10th time the Wolverines have sent multiple athletes to the singles tournament.
Charney, ranked No. 10 in the preseason fall rankings, secured the No. 3 seed after an impressive 7-2 record this fall. She will kick off her tournament against Emma Kamper from Utah on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
Jones, sitting at No. 26, will face a tough opponent in Theadora Rabman from North Carolina, who is ranked No. 12. Their match is set for 9 a.m.
Charney earned her spot by reaching the consolation final at the ITA All-America Championships, while Jones advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Sectional Championships to qualify.
Jones is just two wins away from hitting a milestone: her 100th career singles victory. She currently has 98 wins under her belt after finishing the fall season with a 14-3 record.
This trip to the USTA National Campus marks Michigan’s first return since they played against Georgia in the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Interestingly, this year’s singles and doubles championships are happening in the fall for the second year as part of a two-year pilot initiative.
Once the NCAA Singles Championship wraps up, U-M will look forward to hosting the Michigan Invitational at the Varsity Tennis Center in January, marking the start of their winter season.
