On the first day, experts like Dr. A Atiq Rahman and Dr. Shahpar Selim presented on research and capacity-building in climate action. The event featured a performance by Rupantar Theatre, highlighting climate justice and gender equity. Alumni from IUB’s Environmental Science and Management department also gathered to discuss challenges related to shrinking global funding.
The second day was packed with diverse presentations and workshops. Topics included climate governance, sustainable agriculture, and energy transitions. Notably, NGO leaders from local Dalit and Munda communities shared their insights on nature-based solutions, while organizations like CIMMYT led discussions on tools for community-led adaptation.
Youth engagement was a key topic, with INFLUENCERS hosting a session on youth advocacy around climate issues. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology shared its interdisciplinary approach to climate governance.
This conference was supported by the COLOCAL Project, backed by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, which aims to strengthen local climate adaptation efforts across Bangladesh, Nepal, Uganda, and Mozambique.
Recent reports indicate that climate change impacts are disproportionately affecting developing countries. A study by the UN shows that these nations are expected to see a 40% increase in climate-related disasters by 2030. This highlights the importance of local strategies, such as those discussed at the conference, in addressing urgent climate concerns.
