Haryana DGP Urges Action Against Singers Promoting Gang Culture Through Music and Videos

Haryana’s Director General of Police, O.P. Singh, recently addressed concerns about musicians who glamorize gang lifestyles in their songs and videos. He labeled them as criminals and emphasized the need for strict legal action against them. According to him, these artists can quickly undermine the values taught to young people by parents and educators.

This isn’t the first time Haryana Police have taken a stand against such music. Earlier this year, they began scrutinizing songs that promote violence, gun culture, and hatred. The police have been monitoring social media, removing certain videos to protect youth from harmful influences.

Singh shared that many of these songs draw a large audience, which can pose serious risks to young minds. In a recent social media post, he praised police officers for their efforts in “Operation Trackdown,” which has effectively disrupted criminal networks across the state.

Launched on November 5, 2022, “Operation Trackdown” has already led to the arrest of 1,439 serious offenders and over 3,000 others connected to various crimes. This campaign aims to capture absconders and organized criminals. Police stated that their quick actions sent a clear message: criminals have nowhere safe in the state.

The initiative has reportedly saved the lives of up to 60 individuals who were targeted by these criminals. Singh reiterated that in a democracy, the rule of law must prevail, and he urged officers to vigorously pursue cases against all individuals arrested during the operation. This includes enforcing strict penalties under the Arms Act, making it clear that those who misuse firearms will face severe consequences.

Experts believe that the influence of media on youth cannot be underestimated. A 2022 study from the Pew Research Center highlights that 72% of teens are exposed to violent content online, which can shape their perceptions and behaviors. The negative impact of glorifying violence in music is a concern echoed by many child psychologists.

As this issue continues to evolve, it’s crucial for both society and law enforcement to collaborate in safeguarding young people from harmful influences while encouraging artists to promote positive messages.
