As 2025 wraps up, we want to take a moment to appreciate the businesses, volunteers, nonprofits, and individuals in Moab who worked hard to ensure everyone had meals to eat this year, particularly during the recent government shutdown.
At the Moab Valley Multicultural Center (MVMC), we not only distribute food but also share information about other local resources. People can find free produce through the Moab Free Health Clinic, enjoy a free lunch on Thursdays at St. Francis Episcopal Church, and join the WabiSabi Thanksgiving community meal. We also assist families in signing up for programs like WIC and SNAP.
Moab may be small, but we have a rich tapestry of food resources. When needs arise, our community comes together in remarkable ways.
In just the first two weeks of November, MVMC handed out over 1,100 meals. That’s double our usual monthly distribution! We managed this remarkable feat without budget cuts, thanks to generous donations from local supporters.
It’s crucial for our community to continue backing these vital organizations. Hunger isn’t seasonal, and our gratitude shouldn’t be either. Each meal shared strengthens our bonds and highlights the spirit of Moab.
According to recent reports, food insecurity has been on the rise, with nearly 10% of households experiencing food shortages in our nation. This makes the work at MVMC even more important. The collaboration among local groups means fewer families go hungry, and every piece of support helps create a more sustainable environment.
Let’s keep this momentum going. Together, we can ensure that everyone in Moab has access to the food and support they need.
