Over the next few days, expect mild weather in Saskatchewan. Light snow is on the way, but temperatures will stay around seasonal averages.
James Colangelo, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), mentioned, “We’ll see a couple of waves of snow in the coming days.” The first wave is set to hit on Christmas morning and will likely last until the afternoon. However, don’t worry too much—only about one to two centimeters of snow is expected.
Boxing Day might bring a little more snow with a second system. Colangelo noted, “We could see more precipitation, maybe two to four centimeters.” Throughout Christmas and Boxing Day, temperatures will stay comfortably around minus six to seven degrees, making travel pretty easy for holiday plans.
Looking ahead to the weekend, be cautious. Heavier snow and strong winds could make conditions more dangerous. Colangelo said, “Saturday will be the day to watch. South central Saskatchewan might see five to ten centimeters of snow combined with winds gusting from the northwest at 50 to 70 km/h. If you can avoid traveling that day, it’s best.”
There’s also a chance of freezing rain overnight from Thursday into Friday, mainly affecting areas near the U.S. border. However, in places like Moose Jaw and Regina, the cold temperatures should keep that risk low.
ECCC will keep a close eye on the weather and will issue any necessary warnings. Colangelo advises, “Stay updated on the forecast. We’ll let you know if any warnings are issued.”
For now, residents of Moose Jaw can enjoy a relatively calm holiday, with light snow and safe travel conditions for family gatherings. It’s a good time to appreciate the festive season while preparing for some possible changes in the weather ahead.
