No. 7 Loyola Chicago is gearing up for an exciting start to their 2026 season! They’ll face No. 2 Hawai’i in a two-match series on January 8 and 9, with both games set to begin at 11 p.m. CT.
Loyola is making waves in the Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA). They topped the preseason poll, and three players—Ryan McElligott, Daniel Fabikovic, and Aleksander Sosa—earned spots on the Preseason All-MIVA team. Last season, McElligott stood out by leading both the MIVA and NCAA in assists, averaging an impressive 10.9 per set.
The team brings back 15 returning players and has added five newcomers, including two freshmen and three transfers. Coaching responsibility falls on Shane Davis, who is entering his 14th season. With a solid career record of 289-92, he led the Ramblers to a 25-4 record last year, securing their fourth MIVA Tournament title. Notably, 2026 marks the 30th year of Loyola’s men’s volleyball program, which has contributed significantly to the university’s three NCAA national championships.
On the other side, Hawai’i is also coming off a strong start. They swept NJIT in their opening series, with sophomore Kristian Titriyski impressing with 23 kills. The team showcased powerful striking, hitting an extraordinary .517 across both matches. Junior setter Tread Rosenthal also stood out, leading in assists and contributing significantly on defense.
Hawai’i’s head coach Charlie Wade is entering his 17th season, boasting a record of 321-131, including guiding the Rainbow Warriors to their fourth Big West Tournament title last season. Historically, Hawai’i has the edge in their matchups, leading the series 13-3 against Loyola.
