Back in January 2020, Atari announced plans to build several video game-themed hotels across the U.S. Fast forward six years, and there’s still no sign of these hotels. Recently, the Las Vegas Sun reported that the proposed hotel in Las Vegas is officially off the table.
An Atari spokesperson shared that they looked into developing the Vegas location in 2020 and 2021, but the deal fell through. The last glimmer of hope for the Las Vegas project came in early 2024 when the Las Vegas Review-Journal mentioned it wasn’t completely dead yet. They promised more updates by late 2024, but nothing has materialized.
The vision for the Las Vegas hotel included around 400 rooms and a front adorned with the iconic Atari logo. Plans aimed to utilize about five acres on the Strip, but sadly, it never took off.
However, Atari hasn’t given up entirely on the hotel concept. Other cities like Austin, Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, San Francisco, San Jose, and Seattle were also in the mix. Among these, the Phoenix project seems to be the one still moving forward. In December 2025, Atari unveiled designs for a hotel in downtown Phoenix, slated for completion by late 2026. This hotel plans to feature 72 rooms—a nod to Atari’s founding year, 1972. Local news outlet 12 News shared these details, adding excitement for gaming fans in the area.
Atari also released a teaser trailer on YouTube highlighting its goal: to create a playable hotel experience for gamers. The designs are currently featured on AtariHotels.com. However, be cautious with your expectations. The project timeline suggests that final construction and the grand opening won’t happen until late 2028.
As video games continue to captivate millions worldwide, the idea of a themed hotel sparks interest. In 2022, a survey by the Entertainment Software Association showed that nearly 214 million Americans play video games, underlining a significant market for such unique experiences.
While we wait for these plans to bloom, it’s clear: the intersection of gaming and hospitality could reshape the future of travel for many fans.
