WACO, Texas – The University of Houston Women’s Basketball team fought hard but came up short, losing 82-66 to #14 Baylor on Tuesday night. Graduate forward Amirah Abdur-Rahim and redshirt guard Kyndall Hunter both scored 17 points for Houston, while graduate guard Briana Peguero added 14 points and a season-best seven assists.
Baylor has now won eight games in a row, with four players scoring in double figures. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs led the Bears with 25 points, and Bella Fontleroy notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
The Cougars started strong, trailing 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. Baylor surged ahead with a quick 7-0 run. Despite Houston’s efforts, they fell behind significantly in the second quarter. Yet, they rallied with a 14-6 run, bringing the score to 71-64 with just over five minutes left. Unfortunately, Baylor closed the game with an 11-0 run to secure the win.
In the next game, Houston returns to Fertitta Center to face Cincinnati at 2 p.m. on Sunday. This will be a special event celebrating Black History Month. Fans are encouraged to wear black, and those who turn out can get a free rally towel while supplies last.
Interestingly, the support for women’s sports has been growing. According to a recent survey, 70% of fans believe that women’s sports deserve more media coverage. Additionally, social media reactions show a rising enthusiasm among supporters, with hashtags like #SupportWomenAthletes trending.
This season has also seen a noticeable increase in attendance at women’s basketball games across the country. As schools invest more in their women’s programs, fans are beginning to take notice and show up in larger numbers.
