Shia LaBeouf was arrested early Tuesday in New Orleans for alleged battery after a night of partying during Mardi Gras. The New Orleans police reported that officers responded around 12:45 AM to disturbances at the Royal Street Inn and Bar in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood, close to the French Quarter.
According to court documents, LaBeouf became aggressive when bar staff tried to escort him out. He reportedly attempted to hit the bar manager and then punched a patron who was assisting the staff. After the confrontation, passersby held him down until the police arrived. He was later taken to a hospital and then arrested, facing two counts of simple battery.
As thousands celebrated Mardi Gras in costumes outside the bar, staff expressed that LaBeouf was not welcome back after his arrest. A video circulating on social media, posted by TMZ, featured LaBeouf shirtless and arguing with someone before paramedics attended to him.
Witnesses from other bars reported unruly behavior from the actor leading up to the incident. Robert Skuse, a doorman, described him as “somewhat belligerent” and recalled LaBeouf’s remark, “Do you know who I am?” after trying to get behind the bar.
LaBeouf has publicly battled issues with sobriety in the past. He credits actors Mel Gibson and Sean Penn with helping him on his journey. His struggles have shaped his work, particularly the film “Honey Boy,” which reflects his experiences. In 2020, LaBeouf faced serious allegations from singer FKA twigs, who accused him of sexual abuse. Although he denied these claims, the two reached a settlement in July 2025.
Social media reactions to LaBeouf’s latest incident have highlighted mixed feelings, with many fans expressing concern for his well-being while others are critical of his behavior. With a history of erratic actions, this latest arrest raises questions about his mental health and future in Hollywood.
LaBeouf is expected to appear in court later today, amidst a backdrop of celebrations that characterize this vibrant city during Mardi Gras.
