The United Way JCGC is hosting an initiative to “Stuff the Pantry,” aiming to collect food and baby items for local families in need. Donations will support several organizations, including the Geary County Food Pantry and the JC Pregnancy Center.
Food pantries in the area provide meals for over 2,000 people each month. Ensuring these pantries are stocked is crucial for meeting community needs. The JC Pregnancy Center also benefits from this effort, as many expecting parents come seeking essentials for their babies, such as diapers and wipes.
Volunteers are welcomed to join the cause. They can help with item collection and delivery to various organizations. There will also be drop-off boxes around the community for those who wish to donate.
Key dates for live food collection events are:
- April 25th, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
- May 2nd, 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Volunteers will be stationed at Dillons and Wal-Mart locations during these times.
Here’s what’s on the wish list: peanut butter, canned meats, baby diapers (any size), shampoo, canned vegetables, rice, beans, cereal, and cleaning supplies. These items help families maintain their nutrition and hygiene.
It’s worth noting that food insecurity can increase during challenging times. According to a recent study by Feeding America, 1 in 9 people in the U.S. faces hunger. Community efforts like this one are essential to combat these statistics and support those affected.
By participating or donating, you can make a real difference in someone’s life.
