Helping families in need has always been important to me. During the pandemic, we had federal funds that supported food pantries in Denton County. I met regularly with pantry leaders to ensure they had a good variety of food available.
In those weekly Zoom meetings, I connected with Rob Veal from Heart of the City in Lewisville and Tracy Eubanks from Metrocrest Services in Carrollton. Recently, both announced their retirements, and they are helping their successors get settled in.
Heart of the City began as Rob’s project with Northview Baptist Church and has now grown to five locations, including Carrollton, Denton, and Frisco. In January, they welcomed Nicole Felder as their new CEO. Nicole has over 20 years of experience in television news and community service. Danny Myall, previously the Director of Operations, has now become COO.
At Metrocrest Services, Tracy led the organization to a new facility in 2023 and helped over 29,000 people facing food insecurity. Last November, Gabrielle “Gabe” Madison took over as CEO. With a strong background in both corporate and nonprofit sectors, she is ready to continue Tracy’s work.
Both Gabrielle and Nicole will bring their unique talents to these vital roles. They will continue the mission of providing food and essential services to those in need.
As we say goodbye to Rob and Tracy, I wish them well in their new adventures. I also look forward to welcoming Gabrielle and Nicole to our community in Denton County. Together, we will work to support our residents.
Food insecurity is a significant issue nationwide, with recent data showing that around 10% of households in the U.S. experienced food insecurity in 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This figure highlights the importance of organizations like Heart of the City and Metrocrest Services. Their work is crucial in addressing this ongoing challenge.
Sharing stories of giving back is essential, and social media has played a big role in this. Many local organizations use platforms like Facebook and Twitter to reach out and connect with the community, raising awareness and gathering support.
