Flavor Flav is throwing a big party in Las Vegas this July. The event celebrates the U.S. women’s ice hockey team and other female Olympians who performed outstandingly at the Milano Cortina Olympics.
From July 16 to 19, Flav will host the “She Got Game” weekend in collaboration with MGM Resorts. He aims to honor not just the women’s hockey team but also other talented female athletes. At 66, Flav is still a strong voice for women in sports. He’s even started a GoFundMe campaign to support U.S. women Olympic medallists.
“I know many of you want to support our female athletes. That’s why I created a GoFundMe,” Flav shared on X. He hopes this effort will have a lasting impact and help the incredible women who represent the U.S.
Flav sent an open invitation for the full 23-member hockey team to come join the festivities in Las Vegas, promising a great time filled with dinners and shows. However, USA Hockey hasn’t confirmed yet if the team will attend.
Interestingly, this invitation to Flav’s event follows the women’s team’s decision to skip Donald Trump’s State of the Union address. USA Hockey cited travel and logistics issues for opting out. Trump invited them during a congratulatory call to the men’s team, joking about needing to bring the women as well. This reflects ongoing discussions about gender equality in sports and highlights how female athletes are often overlooked, even in celebratory settings.
In recent years, women’s sports have gained more visibility. For example, a study found that television coverage of women’s sports rose by 55% in 2021. This shift shows a growing appreciation for female athletes and their achievements, something Flavor Flav aims to amplify with his event.
It’s refreshing to see a prominent figure in hip-hop champion women’s sports. Flav’s actions send a clear message: female athletes deserve recognition and celebration, not just during major victories but throughout their careers.
