Viral Sensation: NYC Wedding Dress Designer Creates Stunning Bridal Snow Sculpture in Central Park!

This is quite impressive!

A wedding dress designer from Manhattan, Colette Komm, has gone viral after sculpting a stunning mannequin out of snow in Central Park. Using just two serrated bread knives, she crafted her “Snowmannequin” in about three hours.

Komm shared that her inspiration came from the joy her artwork brought to others. “There were people applauding,” she said. “It was a great experience.” The creation quickly gained attention, racking up nearly 8 million views on Instagram and TikTok.

Growing up in Vancouver, Komm has experience with snow sculptures. She mentioned that the snow’s condition is critical for carving. “After it goes through a freeze-thaw cycle, you can’t roll a snowball anymore,” she explained. Instead, she had to gather chunks of snow by hand and compress them into a large pile. “I literally had to hug the pile to make it compact,” she added.

After building the form, Komm returned the next day to carve the dress’s hem. To her surprise, someone had playfully added a snowball to the top of her mannequin, trying to give it a quirky head. “I had to take it off because this is a dress form; it doesn’t have a head,” she noted.

The sculpture drew a crowd, with many people visiting specifically to see her creation. One woman even mentioned she had been searching for it since 96th Street. “It was amazing to see how many people were excited,” Komm said.

During her carving, she live-streamed the process, attracting around 750 viewers. A police officer even came by, and she feared she might get in trouble for having big knives. But he was just there to check out the impressive work.

This kind of public engagement is part of a growing trend. Art in public spaces has been gaining traction, often bringing communities together. According to a recent survey, around 78% of people believe public art adds value to their surroundings. Sculptures like Komm’s can spark conversations and inspire creativity, drawing attention to the beauty of everyday moments.

So, what happens next? Winter will come to an end, but the memories of the “Snowmannequin” will linger. Its impact on the community highlights how art can surprise and connect us, even in unexpected forms.
