Cabo Collegiate Golf Update
Los Cabos, Mexico – The Oklahoma State men’s golf team is making waves at the Cabo Collegiate. They shot a solid 274 in the second round, bringing their total to 554, which puts them in second place at 14-under par. They’re just three shots behind Arkansas on the challenging par-71, 7,170-yard course at Twin Dolphin Club.
Leading the competition is Preston Stout. The junior had an impressive 8-under 63, giving him a total of 12-under 130. This performance puts him six shots ahead of his closest rivals. Stout’s 63 ties the tournament record initially set by former All-American Austin Eckroat in 2019.
Stout started strong with three birdies in a row and four total on the front nine, finishing it in 5-under 30. He continued his momentum with two more birdies, despite a single bogey on the 17th hole.
Other players from Oklahoma State had mixed rounds. Eric Lee shot a 72 after opening with a 68, bringing him to 140 and tied for 16th place. Ethan Fang improved slightly with a 70, putting him at 141 and tied for 19th. Gaven Lane bounced back from a 77 with a 69, while Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson also posted a 72, both finishing at 146 and tied for 45th.
The final round begins tomorrow at 9:30 a.m., where the Cowboys will play alongside Arkansas, Arizona State, and Rice.
Golf, especially at the collegiate level, has seen a rise in competitiveness. Recent statistics from the NCAA suggest that the average team scores have improved each year, reflecting advancements in training and technology. This environment pushes players to excel, much like what we’re observing with Stout’s incredible performance.
