Britney Spears was arrested in Ventura County, California, for driving under the influence late Wednesday night. The California Highway Patrol stopped her around 9:28 PM. After being booked early Thursday morning, she was released by 6 AM.
This incident comes shortly after Spears secured a restraining order against a man who has been harassing her for nearly a decade. He had made alarming social media posts and even showed up at her home in Los Angeles.
Spears has had legal issues before. Back in 2007, she faced four misdemeanor charges related to a hit-and-run incident, but those charges were dropped after she compensated the car’s owner.
In February, Spears made headlines by selling her music rights for a whopping $200 million. This deal was with Primary Wave, marking a significant moment after her 13-year conservatorship, which she described as abusive and financially draining.
During that time, Spears had no control over her finances. Reflecting on those years, she expressed in her memoir, The Woman in Me, that she felt like a “shadow” of herself. She was happy to finally reclaim her voice as an artist.
Her music catalog, which now belongs to Primary Wave, includes hits like “…Baby One More Time” and “Lucky.” This publisher also manages the music of other legends, such as Whitney Houston and Stevie Nicks.
Recently, Spears announced she wouldn’t perform in the U.S. again for “extremely sensitive reasons.” However, she hasn’t ruled out international shows, stating, “I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair…performing with my son.”
Despite not releasing a new album since 2016’s Glory, she has collaborated on singles like the 2022 Elton John hit, “Hold Me Closer.” Since her conservatorship ended, Spears has largely stayed out of the public eye, often sharing dance videos on social media instead.
As a pop icon, her journey reflects the complexities of fame, mental health, and personal freedom, stirring discussions among fans on platforms like Twitter and Instagram. Many express concern and support, highlighting the importance of mental well-being for public figures.
