According to Dave Oshry from New Blood Interactive, Nintendo is being very selective about the games it allows on the upcoming Switch 2. They’re aiming to avoid the overcrowded eShop experience that plagued the original Switch.
Oshry mentioned that his team has received development kits and has a new version of their game, Dusk, ready to run at an impressive 120 FPS. However, they still need Nintendo’s approval to release it. He explained, “Nintendo is careful about launching games on Switch 2. They don’t want it to become overwhelmed with low-quality titles like before. They’re being picky about who can release games.”
This cautious approach seems to be common in the industry. Recent reports indicate that some developers are still having difficulty obtaining development kits for Switch 2. This speaks to Nintendo’s strategy of ensuring quality over quantity.
Nintendo’s focus on maintaining a robust library may be a response to the challenges seen in the original Switch’s eShop, where many players complained about the influx of “shovelware.” By limiting game releases, they hope to foster a stronger, more curated gaming environment.
As gamers eagerly await the new console, the anticipation builds. Will Nintendo’s strategy pay off? Only time will tell, but it seems they’re committed to providing a better gaming experience this time around.
