Join Local Climate Action This Year: Make a Difference in Your Community!

Lymm Environment Action Forum (LEAF) is a grassroots climate action group that’s all about making a difference in the community. They’re looking for local residents to join their mission for environmental change. With several successful projects in progress, LEAF is eager for new ideas and energy to push their efforts even further.

LEAF is all about taking action in practical ways. Here’s a snapshot of what they do:

  • Provide tips on saving energy at home, including advice on solar panels and heat pumps.
  • Offer an infrared camera loan scheme to help residents find heat loss and save money.
  • Set up educational stalls at local events to discuss energy, recycling, and reducing food waste.
  • Team up with Sustrans to improve access to the Trans Pennine Trail.
  • Campaign for better local bus services.
  • Support the Lymm Solar Farm initiative.

These initiatives have already made a positive impact, but LEAF knows more can be done with a larger group of volunteers.

Julia Stansfield, LEAF’s Chair, expresses their excitement: “We want new people in the group, especially those who can bring creativity and fresh ideas. Younger members or those who feel young at heart can offer valuable insights. And if you’re tech-savvy, that’s a huge plus!”

Volunteers can pitch in with ideas like:

  • Sharing personal experiences on home energy improvements to guide others.
  • Hosting energy-saving advice sessions.
  • Organizing educational activities, such as film screenings on climate issues.
  • Creating a reusable cup scheme to cut down waste.
  • Enhancing LEAF’s social media presence and keeping the website updated.

Importantly, volunteers can also bring their own projects to life through LEAF, collaborating on what they’re passionate about.

LEAF offers a relaxed environment. They meet every two months to discuss current projects and brainstorm new ideas. Volunteers can choose projects based on their interests and schedule—no prior experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a desire to make a local impact.

Community involvement has become increasingly vital in combating climate change. According to recent surveys, over 75% of people believe that local actions can significantly contribute to global environmental goals. Social media trends also highlight a surge of community-led initiatives, emphasizing the power of local engagement.

In lesser-known facts, cities that encourage local environmental actions, like tree planting or community energy programs, often experience improvements in air quality and biodiversity. This highlights the immediate benefits of grassroots efforts like those by LEAF.
