Unlocking the Power of WASD: A Comprehensive Guide to WASD’s Ranked Release

Sure! Here’s a revised version that’s engaging, simpler, and more focused:

Hey, everyone! We’re excited to share that WASD controls are officially launching in Ranked play with patch 26.9, just in time for Season 2. A big shout-out to all the players who helped us test and provide feedback. Your input has been crucial!

Is WASD Ready for Ranked?

We wanted to make sure WASD controls keep the game fair and fun. To figure this out, we looked at two main goals:

  1. Balance: WASD shouldn’t overpower Point and Click controls.
  2. Equity: The win rates between control schemes should be similar.

After lots of tests and tweaks, we’re happy to report that WASD is performing at a similar level to Point and Click. While there’s still a slight edge for Point and Click, we think that gap will close as players get used to WASD.

Player Insights

We also gathered players’ feelings about both control schemes. Through surveys, we found that most players didn’t notice a significant difference between WASD and Point and Click. This means both options provide a similar gaming experience.

Making WASD Smooth

Before bringing WASD into Ranked, we did some fine-tuning. For example:

  • Pathfinding: Previously, champions could dodge obstacles by clicking around them. With WASD, we had to ensure champions navigate the map smoothly without getting stuck on walls. Our team worked hard to adjust how champions move to prevent frustrating blockages.

  • Ability Follow-ups: Some champions automatically launch an attack after using an ability. We adjusted this feature for WASD players so it feels more intuitive. For instance, Tristana’s ability won’t automatically trigger an attack when using WASD, while Garen’s will.

Custom Controls

Starting with Patch 26.8, you can customize your key bindings for each champion, whether you use WASD or Point and Click. This includes setting up smart casting and other options to suit your play style.

Accessibility Features

We’ve revamped our input system to make the game more accessible:

  • Mouse Cursor Movement: Players can now control the cursor with different inputs.
  • Joystick Support: While full controller support isn’t planned yet, you can use WASD on a joystick for accessibility.
  • Rotated Inputs: This option allows you to map WASD based on the map’s layout, making it easier to move.

Fun Bugs

As we worked on WASD, we encountered some funny bugs worth sharing:

  • Syndra Wiggle: When using WASD, Syndra sometimes wiggles while walking straight.
  • Aphelios Attack: In a bizarre twist, Aphelios can auto-attack after dying if he uses a specific ability.
  • Warwick Drift: Warwick can drift awkwardly when dashing, causing some entertaining animations!

Moving Forward

Thanks again to everyone who tested WASD and shared their thoughts. We’re committed to improving this control option and keeping it fun for all players.

See you on the Rift!

I hope this version meets your expectations!
