Warner Bros. and DC have just teased their upcoming horror film, Clayface, at CinemaCon, though only attendees got a sneak peek.
The trailer shows a disfigured character, played by Tom Rhys Harries, in a hospital bed. We see him at different stages of trauma, hinting at a dark backstory. There’s also a scene where he wears a mask and distorts his face like putty, showcasing his shapeshifting abilities.
Directed by James Watkins, Clayface aims to make a big impact for DC Studios, especially after Supergirl launches on June 26. Initially slated for early September, the film is now set to hit theaters on October 23, just in time for Halloween.
Peter Safran, the DC Chief, mentioned that Clayface might not be well-known yet but will capture audiences’ attention once this “riveting horror thriller” releases.
Clayface’s origins date back to 1940, when he first appeared in comics as an actor who became a criminal after adopting a character from a horror film. This character has evolved over the years, always featuring shapeshifting abilities and often opposing Batman.
The cast includes Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan. The script is a collaboration between Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini, with production led by notable figures like Matt Reeves.
Interestingly, trends on social media indicate growing anticipation for this film, particularly among fans of the horror genre. Recent polls show a spike in interest in horror adaptations of superhero tales, suggesting that Clayface could tap into a unique niche.
