Olympic champions Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe have decided to part ways after ten years together. They shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram post, explaining, “There really is no smooth or easy way to share this news. After a lot of thought, we’ve made the decision to separate as a couple.”
In their message, they emphasized the love, respect, and care they still have for one another. They reflected on their life together, saying, “We’ve shared a whole life over the last decade, through big moments and in quiet ones, and that is something we’ll always carry with us.”
They also announced the end of their podcast, “A Touch More.” The duo expressed gratitude for their community, stating, “We are so grateful to this incredible community that has held us up, welcomed us in, and supported us exactly how we are.”
Bird and Rapinoe first crossed paths at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Their relationship became public in July 2017, and they got engaged in October 2020.
Since then, they have shared many experiences, including their podcast, which started during the COVID-19 pandemic. As they close this chapter, they have plans to move forward with new projects. They are executive producers for “Playing the Field,” a new series inspired by the sports romance novel “Cleat Cute” by Meryl Wilsner.
This show will focus on the lives of four female players in a professional soccer team, highlighting the romance between the team captain and a promising new player.
Additionally, Bird will take on a new role as a studio analyst for the WNBA season with NBC and Peacock. Both athletes continue to inspire many with their dedication to sports and advocacy for women in athletics.
While they are parting as a couple, their impact on the sports community and their ongoing projects suggest that their journeys are far from over.
