Otte enjoys their carne asada fries and bean burritos, praising the freshness of every dish.
Gabbi’s Mexican Kitchen
For a higher-end experience, check out Gabbi’s Mexican Kitchen. It’s a Michelin-star restaurant founded by Gabbi and Ed Patrick in 2006. Seraphina Oketch, a junior, raves about it, emphasizing its ambiance and authentic dishes. The menu features homemade classics like birria quesadillas. “The atmosphere is amazing, and it’s a great spot for special occasions,” Oketch adds.
Smoqued California Barbeque
If you’re in the mood for barbecue, Smoqued BBQ is a staple in the area. With everything from brisket to pulled pork, it’s a favorite among many locals. Lane Forti, a junior journalism major, appreciates the Texas-style BBQ it offers. “It feels like home,” he says, recalling how he discovered it while exploring The Circle. The menu also features unique items like mac and cheese shepherd’s pie.
Philz Coffee
For those who need a caffeine fix, Philz Coffee is a popular choice. Samantha Wong, an assistant news editor, describes it as the best spot for hot chocolate on campus. Philz specializes in customizable pour-over coffee, allowing each customer to tailor their drink. It’s a perfect place to catch up with friends or get some studying done.
O SEA
Voted the “Best Seafood Restaurant” by the LA Times, O SEA offers a blend of seasonal specials and classic dishes. Morgan May, a senior public relations major, highlights their creative menu and the fun atmosphere. “It’s a great place for seafood lovers,” she says, enjoying the oysters and cioppino.
Thai Towne Eatery
Finally, Thai Towne Eatery, tucked away in The Circle, serves comforting noodle dishes and classic Thai fare. Editor-in-chief Nicole Kavros loves the attentive service and generous portions, making it a great spot for students seeking comfort food. “It’s perfect for a casual dinner,” she explains.
