CORVALLIS, Ore. — The Oregon State Beavers faced a tough match against their rivals, the Oregon Ducks, falling 7-3 at Goss Stadium. Although the Beavers put up a fight with notable efforts from Easton Talt, who hit a home run, and Trey Morris, who struck out four batters in over three innings, they couldn’t overcome three costly errors.
Oregon State (30-9) got off to a strong start. Talt, the leadoff batter, smashed a 368-foot homer to right field, marking his fourth of the season. Jacob Galloway also shone, going 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. The team drew seven walks overall, which shows their persistence at the plate despite the loss.
Morris, a freshman left-hander, kept the Ducks quiet for most of his outing, allowing only two hits. However, he exited in the fourth inning after walking a couple of batters. Coming in, reliever Wyatt Queen struggled, giving up three runs, one earned, before being replaced by Zach Edwards.
The Ducks (29-11) found their rhythm in the sixth inning. After a series of walks and hits, they managed to tie the game. By the end of the seventh, they had built a 5-1 lead, capitalizing on a few defensive errors from the Beavers.
In the final inning, Oregon State rallied, scoring two runs, but it wasn’t enough. Oregon’s Toby Twist struck out the side to earn the win; the Ducks used a total of ten pitchers in the game.
Looking ahead, Oregon State will host Hawai’i for a three-game series this weekend. The first pitch is set for Friday at 5:35 p.m. PT.
This matchup highlights the competitive nature of college baseball. As teams gear up for playoffs, each game becomes crucial. A recent NCAA survey found that nearly 70% of college athletes reported high levels of stress during the season. It’s a reminder that while the scoreboard matters, mental health is just as important.
