IDFA Foundation and Dairy Processors Join Forces to Deliver Major Donation to San Diego Food Bank

The IDFA Foundation, along with several dairy companies, recently made a significant contribution to the fight against hunger in San Diego County. They donated 12,960 units of shelf-stable milk and $6,000 to Feeding San Diego. This was highlighted during a two-hour event where over 30 executives from dairy companies sorted and packed meals for families in need. Overall, these donations will provide more than 22,000 meals to those struggling with food insecurity.

The IDFA Foundation and the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) organized this initiative to support the school pantry program. This program brings nutritious food directly to local schools—places where families with children already gather. During the event, IDFA members sorted and packed 5,000 pounds of food.

Key players in this generous act include:
– The Marcel J Damiens Family Foundation and Diversified Foods, Inc. from Louisiana, which contributed 12,960 units of shelf-stable milk valued at about $7,700.
– Idaho Milk Products
– Daragh Maccabee

Andrew Jerome, the executive director of the IDFA Foundation, emphasized their commitment to reducing hunger. “We are proud to partner with Feeding San Diego to support families facing hunger,” he said during the event.

Sean Steichen, Chief Operating Officer for Diversified Foods, highlighted the nutritional benefits of milk. “Milk contains 13 essential nutrients, including 8 grams of high-quality protein per serving. It’s a vital part of a balanced diet,” he shared.

This kind of community support is crucial, especially when nearly 1 in 5 children in San Diego face food insecurity. Efforts like these shed light on the importance of access to nutritious food for all families.

Such initiatives reflect a growing awareness of food insecurity issues across the country. According to recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, nearly 38 million Americans lived in food-insecure households in 2020. Efforts by organizations like the IDFA Foundation play a pivotal role in addressing this pressing issue.

By coming together, communities and organizations can make a real difference in the lives of those in need.
