Hyderabad launched a new awareness program this week in anticipation of World Environment Day 2026. The theme? “Climate Change – Focusing on the Challenges to Mother Earth.”
This initiative, directed by the Railway Board, will spread across all railway divisions, stations, and offices, concluding on June 5. At kick-off, staff took an environmental pledge and started a signature campaign. This highlights our shared responsibility in protecting the environment. General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, along with staff and Railway Protection Force members, attended the event.
Sanjay emphasized that the pledge is more than just a formality. “It’s a reminder that taking care of the environment means taking care of ourselves,” he said. This year, the focus is on various issues like climate change awareness, tree planting initiatives like “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” clean air, green spaces, and better waste management.
In practical terms, South Central Railway has been active in efforts such as planting trees, reducing single-use plastics, and managing waste effectively. These actions contribute to the broader goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions.
Experts note the importance of such initiatives. A report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) states that immediate action is critical for mitigating climate change effects. Public campaigns like this not only raise awareness but also encourage community involvement.
Interestingly, social media trends show a growing interest in environmental issues among younger generations. Hashtags like #ClimateAction and #EcoFriendly are trending, reflecting a shift in attitudes toward sustainability.
By taking these steps, South Central Railway is not just participating in a movement but leading by example in the fight against climate change. For more information on these crucial global issues, check out the IPCC report.
