Investigators have confirmed that human remains discovered at a Texas home belong to six-year-old Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez. Authorities believe his mother, Cindy Rodriguez-Singh, who has a history of abusive behavior, is responsible for his death.
Noel’s body was found behind a house in Everman, a suburb of Dallas, on a Thursday in October 2023. He was last seen alive just after the birth of his twin siblings in October 2022, appearing malnourished at that time.
In March 2023, during a welfare check, the authorities asked about Noel’s whereabouts. His mother falsely claimed he was in Mexico with his biological father, or that he had been sold at a local market. Just hours after this check, she fled to India with her husband and other children, which led to her landing on the FBI’s 10 Most Wanted List.
Interestingly, in the days before leaving, investigators suspect her husband may have stolen $10,000 and disposed of a human body wrapped in a carpet. After nearly two years of searching, Rodriguez-Singh was charged with capital murder in Tarrant County and extradited from India.
District Attorney Phil Sorrells emphasized the commitment to seeking justice for Noel. “We owe that to him and to the citizens of Tarrant County,” he stated.
Authorities report that Rodriguez-Singh believed her son was “evil” and “possessed” by a demon, which she allegedly used as justification for the abuse and neglect he suffered. Noel faced significant challenges, having been born prematurely and living in poor conditions with his mother and siblings.
During their investigation, police found an altar dedicated to “Santa Muerte,” a Mexican folk deity often associated with death and, alarmingly, drug cartels. This discovery sheds light on the disturbing environment in which Noel lived.
Although Rodriguez-Singh was deemed incompetent to stand trial in April 2023, Sorrells has noted that experts believe she may regain her competency soon, leading to her trial for this horrific crime.
This tragic case highlights serious issues surrounding child welfare and the urgent need for better systems to protect vulnerable children. According to a report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 650,000 children were confirmed as victims of child abuse or neglect in 2021 alone, emphasizing the broader crisis facing many families. Such cases often go unnoticed until it is too late, underscoring an urgent need for community awareness and intervention.
