Diamond Pet Foods Unveils State-of-the-Art Plant in Ripon: A Boost for Pet Nutrition and Local Economy

Diamond Pet Foods recently celebrated the opening of its new facility in Ripon, California, creating over 75 jobs in the process. This site, which is the company’s fourth overall, joins their smaller operation in Lathrop, just 15 miles away.

Mark Schell, Vice President of Manufacturing, explained that the new facility was needed to serve a growing customer base. He highlighted that the Ripon location helps the company operate more efficiently and sustainably, addressing both logistical and environmental concerns.

The Ripon site underwent a 20-month renovation, transforming a former Neenah Paper plant. The updated facility spans 150 acres near Highway 99, featuring new buildings like a mill tower for ingredient storage, and several green technologies. Notably, it includes a solar farm that supplies 20% of its power and energy-efficient LED lighting, which reduces energy consumption by at least 50%.

Although the initial promise was for over 100 jobs, the community remains excited about the opportunities this new plant brings. Ken Zuidervaart, Ripon’s planning and economic development director, noted the importance of having a family-oriented business like Diamond Pet Foods in their close-knit community.

During the renovation, about 200 local laborers were employed, showcasing the company’s commitment to bolstering the local economy. Now, there are around 200 employees across their two California sites, with all positions at the Ripon facility already filled.

This expansion reflects a growing trend in the pet food industry. Recent statistics show that the global pet food market is projected to reach over $131 billion by 2025, driven by the rising pet ownership and demand for premium products. As manufacturers like Diamond Pet Foods expand, they are also increasingly turning to sustainable practices, a shift that resonates well with today’s environmentally conscious consumers.
