De’Von Jasper became an internet sensation after he moonwalked across the stage at his high school graduation. The Houma, LA native racked up an incredible 250 million views in just six months. With the release of the new biopic “Michael,” Jasper decided to share the clip again, leading to another 100 million views in a week!
“I wanted everyone to see it. I thought, why not share it again?” Jasper said. His performance was so impressive that it caught the attention of Michael Jackson’s official social media accounts.
At just 20 years old, Jasper knew he wanted to impress during graduation. His principal, aware of his dancing fame, warned him not to moonwalk. “During practice, she said, ‘No moonwalking across the stage,’” he recalled, but he had other plans.
Jasper took to the stage dressed in socks, just like Jackson famously did. His math teacher even told him, “Don’t do it,” but he couldn’t resist. “I blew her a kiss and said, ‘I’m doing it.’”
The clip shows him nailing the moonwalk and even showcasing two perfect splits. “Everyone was cheering, and my principal had to smile after that split!” he said.
His moment of fame didn’t stop there. Jasper became friends with Michael Jackson’s son, Prince. They connected through social media, and Prince invited him to a private “Thriller”-themed party at the Jackson family home. There, Jasper met Travis Payne, Jackson’s long-time choreographer.
“Prince follows me on Instagram, and we’ve hung out a couple of times. I even asked him about his dad,” Jasper shared.
Now studying moving image arts and dance at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Jasper is inspired to create more content related to Michael Jackson. He’s gearing up to film new projects during this “Michael month” as interest around the biopic peaks.
