Colorado’s lacrosse team has made history once again! Lily Assini, Jess Peluso, and Maddie Shoup have all been named to the Division I All-American Teams, a notable achievement for the program. This is the first time since 2018 that three players from Colorado earned such recognition.
Peluso stands out with a first-team selection, a rare honor in the program’s history. She’s not just talented; she’s made a significant impact on the team. With five All-American honors to her name, Peluso has set a new record. Originally from East Islip, N.Y., she’s also the first player at Colorado to win multiple conference player of the year awards. In her senior season, she excelled defensively, leading the Big 12 with over two caused turnovers per game. Her stats speak volumes: she holds the all-time CU record with 113 caused turnovers and ranks high in other categories as well.
Assini and Shoup both landed third-team honors. Assini, a Colorado native, had an impressive season, contributing 30 goals and 23 assists. She maintained a streak of 34 consecutive games scoring at least a point. Shoup shined as the team’s offensive leader with 47 goals and 24 assists, placing her among the best in program history for points in a single season. After a standout performance in the conference tournament, she was named the Most Outstanding Player.
These achievements highlight not just individual talent, but also the growing strength of Colorado lacrosse. According to a recent survey by the NCAA, the popularity of women’s lacrosse is increasing, with over 10,000 new players joining the ranks nationwide in the last year alone. This trend could mean more exciting seasons ahead for teams like Colorado.
With such talented players leading the way, it’s clear that Colorado lacrosse is a force to be reckoned with in collegiate athletics. For more updates, follow the team on their social media channels and keep an eye on their future games!
