Surge in AEW Double or Nothing Pre-PPV Buys: What You Need to Know!

There’s buzz around AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view this year. According to wrestling expert Dave Meltzer, advance buys are significantly higher than usual for an AEW event.

Meltzer shared on Wrestling Observer Radio that while most fans tend to buy on the day of the event, the early sales are looking promising. He said, “The pay-per-view buys ahead of time were way above normal. I expect a pretty big one.” This early interest suggests fans are excited about the matches lined up.

One of the major drawcards is the title vs. hair match between Darby Allin and MJF. Meltzer observed a significant jump in ticket prices after this stipulation was announced. He noted, “The scalper price to get in was $153, which means the secondary market tripled from the announcement of the hair match.” Fans were eager enough that, even prior to this announcement, the event was on track to sell out.

As of Friday, the event is officially sold out, boasting 14,028 tickets sold and generating nearly $1.5 million in ticket sales. This makes it the second-largest gate for a non-WWE wrestling event in U.S. history.

The lineup for Double or Nothing features several exciting matchups:

  • Darby Allin defends the AEW World Championship against MJF in the title vs. hair match.
  • The AEW Women’s Championship is on the line as Thekla defends against Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, and Jamie Hayter.
  • Kazuchika Okada defends the AEW International Championship against Konosuke Takeshita.
  • FTR face Adam Copeland & Christian Cage in an I Quit street fight for the AEW World Tag Team Championships.
  • Jon Moxley defends the Continental Championship against Kyle O’Reilly.
  • A Stadium Stampede match features Chris Jericho, Bobby Lashley, and others facing off against The Demand.
  • Will Ospreay takes on Samoa Joe in an Owen Hart tournament match.
  • Several other matches, including a Buy-In event, round out the card.

This event shows how AEW is gaining momentum and reshaping the wrestling landscape. The way they’ve created buzz with intriguing storylines and match stipulations might lead to more record-breaking events in the future.
