A 26-year-old Indian man, Kanojiya Riken, has been charged in Singapore for sheltering 13 immigration offenders from India. These individuals overstayed their visit passes. Authorities revealed that Riken, along with two local Singaporeans, faced immigration charges after a raid on March 3.
During the raid, officials found 13 Indian nationals in Riken’s flat. Their ages ranged from 19 to 44 years. Riken had allowed them to stay in his home without checking if they had valid passes. This violation puts him at serious legal risk.
Interestingly, Singapore has strict laws surrounding employment and immigration. Just recently, another Singaporean, Song Yi Da, and an Indian-origin woman, Suba Priyadarshini, were also charged for similar offenses. Song knew an Indian man did not have a valid work permit, while Suba employed another man who had overstayed his short-term visit pass.
The penalties for such actions can be severe. If convicted of hiring or sheltering overstayed immigrants, one could face up to two years of imprisonment and hefty fines, sometimes reaching over SGD 6,000 (around USD 4,500).

This surge raises concerns about how immigration laws are enforced and the responsibilities of those who employ foreigners.
