Lucknow: On Saturday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that the Indian Navy effectively kept the entire Pakistan Navy docked during Operation Sindoor. During a ceremony for ‘Nausena Shaurya Vatika,’ a new naval museum, Singh emphasized the importance of the Navy’s role in maintaining pressure on Pakistan.
Operation Sindoor started on May 7, 2025, after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Indian forces struck specific targets across the border, and hostilities paused on May 10.
The Nausena Shaurya Vatika aims to honor the Indian Navy’s history, skills, and achievements. Singh expressed that this museum is a source of pride for Lucknow and Uttar Pradesh, suggesting it will inspire future generations and become a popular tourist spot.
Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath opened the museum with Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi and other officials present. Developed with the Tourism Department, this museum highlights bravery and technology in the naval force. Singh noted that maritime security impacts everyone, even in landlocked cities like Lucknow. The Indian Ocean plays a vital role in the economy, connecting trade and energy resources.
He also highlighted the bond between the city and the decommissioned warship INS Gomati, emphasizing that just like the Gomti River flows to the sea, the ship brought honor to Lucknow during its service.
More than just a tourist destination, Singh envisions this place as a tribute to those who sacrifice for the nation’s security. It will remind visitors of the importance of freedom and the contributions of our armed forces.
Additionally, Singh discussed India’s growing defense capabilities. Since 2014, defense exports skyrocketed from below ₹1,000 crore to about ₹40,000 crore today, showcasing India’s capacity for indigenous defense production.
He praised the state’s transformation under Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, contrasting its historical challenges with its current progress. Singh expressed confidence that the new museum, strategically located near Ekana Stadium and Gomti wetlands, would excel due to its fast-tracked development.
Looking ahead, Singh mentioned plans to add a submarine to the museum’s exhibits, further enhancing its allure. Visitors can explore various displays, including the INS Gomati’s anchor and submarine equipment, while learning about the Navy’s operations and technological advancements.
Overall, the Nausena Shaurya Vatika is set to become a vital part of Lucknow’s identity, inspiring residents and visitors alike to appreciate the sacrifices made for national defense.
