FBI agents fatally shot a man during a standoff in Bakersfield, California, that lasted 12 hours. The incident occurred at a building that contains a bank branch and a school district office.
Bakersfield police reported that the shooting involved FBI personnel and confirmed that all hostages were found unharmed after receiving medical evaluations and treatment at the scene.
Initially, police responded to a bomb threat at the location. The suspect barricaded himself inside with several hostages, two of whom were released after negotiations.
Authorities set up a wide perimeter around the building and evacuated nearby City Hall and the police headquarters. Bakersfield police sergeant Eric Celedon stated that the department deployed every available resource to ensure the situation was resolved safely.
The investigation is ongoing, and significant law enforcement presence will remain in the area. The suspect’s identity and motive have not been disclosed.
