Jon Batiste wowed the crowd at Super Bowl LIX by singing the National Anthem.

This Grammy and Oscar-winning artist is also known as the bandleader for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” He performed at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Batiste started his performance with a jazzy style, gradually building up to an energetic finish. He played a vibrant piano positioned in the center of the field.
Before taking the stage, Batiste shared with ET’s Kevin Frazier that he wanted to pay tribute to his late grandfather, a veteran.
“I’m reflecting on my personal story, the story of this country, and how we can honor the best among us,” Batiste said. He considered his grandfather to be a significant mentor in his life.
“He represented the best of this country,” he continued. “With this family legacy and the veterans who served, I sing for them and for all of us who need love and healing right now.”
The piano he played was uniquely decorated with a hand-painted tapestry made by his wife, Suleika Jaouad. She appeared with him in the acclaimed documentary “American Symphony” released in 2023.
Kendrick Lamar and SZA are set to perform at the Halftime Show, promising more excitement for fans.
