Important Update: My Nintendo Gold Points Will Be Discontinued on March 25 – What You Need to Know!

Nintendo has shared that starting March 25, 2025, you won’t be able to earn My Nintendo Gold Points anymore.

Gold Points are typically given as 5% of what you spend on eligible digital content. These points can be used for discounts on downloadable software and DLC in the eShop. Unfortunately, Nintendo hasn’t explained why they are stopping this program. They did provide an FAQ for more details:

We appreciate your continued support for our products.

As of March 25, 2025, you won’t be able to earn Gold Points on digital purchases. However, any Gold Points you’ve already earned can still be used for discounts in the Nintendo eShop after that date.

So, what does this mean for you?
Earning Gold Points from digital purchases and downloads will end on March 25, 2025. This applies to purchases made on the Nintendo eShop and the official website, as well as redeemed download codes.

If you pre-order any digital titles before March 24, 2025, you will still earn Gold Points, regardless of when the game is released. The points will show up in your Nintendo Account within 24 hours of payment processing and after you receive a ‘Thank you for your purchase’ email.

But if you cancel your pre-order before the payment goes through, or if there are payment issues on your end, you won’t receive Gold Points, even if you try to re-order the same game later.

For pre-orders made through the My Nintendo Store or other retailers, these will be processed as download codes, and you won’t earn Gold Points on those starting March 25.

What about physical Nintendo Switch Game Cards? You can still earn Gold Points by registering these from the HOME Menu on your Switch. This only works if the game was released by March 24, 2025. If a game releases after that date, no Gold Points will be given. In Europe and South Africa, you can earn points from a Game Card for two years after its release date; in other regions, it’s one year.

Any prior commitments by Nintendo to offer Gold Points through other means will still be honored. They may also grant Gold Points for special reasons even after March 24, 2025.

How about using your existing Gold Points? They’re valid for 12 months from the date you earn them and will expire at the end of that month. The points you earned by March 24 can still be used for discounts until they expire, even after Gold Points distribution has stopped.
