Dubai: Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, is on fire lately. He kicked off the Champion Trophy match against Bangladesh with an amazing performance. On Sunday, he reached a significant milestone, becoming the fastest player to hit 9,000 ODI runs as an opener. He achieved this in just 181 innings, beating legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
In the match against Pakistan, Rohit scored 20 runs off 15 balls, hitting three fours and a six before falling to a delivery from Shaheen Afridi. India was chasing a target of 242 after bowling out Pakistan for 241, thanks in large part to Kuldeep Yadav’s impressive three-wicket haul.
Rohit only needed one run to reach the 9,000 ODI mark when he stepped onto the pitch and secured the record with his very first ball, guiding it towards the backward square leg.
This isn’t the first record he’s set recently. Just before that, he became the second-fastest batter to score 11,000 ODI runs in the opening match of the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh. He also eclipsed Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 15,310 runs, making him the second-leading run-scorer as an opener across all formats for India with a stellar score of 119 runs in a previous match.
