Apple is set to update its MacBook Air line with M4 chips next month, as reported by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg. This update will complete the MacBook line’s transition to the M4 chip.
While specific dates weren’t mentioned, Gurman noted that Apple is gearing up its marketing and sales teams for the launch. The company is also making room in stores by clearing current laptop stock. Both the 13-inch and 15-inch models are expected to roll out together, similar to last year.
Since switching to Apple Silicon, the MacBook Air has kept features similar to the lower-end MacBook Pro. However, it remains lighter and sleeker, with fewer ports and no cooling fan. The base model of the 14-inch Pro has 10-core CPUs and GPUs, along with 16GB of RAM. It’ll be interesting to see if the new Air models can support two external displays while the lid is open, a feature of the Pro model.
Currently, the Mac Studio and Mac Pro are still on the M2 chips. Gurman suggests that the Mac Studio could see its M4 upgrade between March and June, while the Mac Pro may wait until summer or fall.
