“Experience the Magic of Music: Rockies Park Wardens Share Enchanting Stories in Vernon”

The Wardens play what some might call ‘mountain music,’ and that’s fitting since the band members truly live the mountain life. They are actually wardens in Canada’s National Parks, working in the beautiful Canadian Rockies.

The band includes Ray Schmidt, Scott Ward, and Scott Duncan. Together, they have taken their music across western Canada and even into the U.S., from Alaska all the way to California. They’ve performed alongside notable acts like Blue Rodeo and Ian Tyson and have graced stages at events like the Folk Alliance International and the Canmore Folk Festival.

What makes their shows special is the blend of music and storytelling. The Wardens share tales from their experiences protecting nature, drawing from over 50 years of combined service in the parks. Ray Schmidt, one of the founding members, jokes, “While the grizzlies sleep, we go off and play.” He highlights that their music is deeply rooted in the rich culture of Canada. The wilderness inspires them and shapes their sound.

Mike Davis from Folk Radio UK praises The Wardens, saying their music is “too often forgotten in today’s hyperactive world,” and describes their style as as “organic as it gets.” The Wardens stand out in the Canadian folk music scene, receiving numerous nominations for their songwriting and performances.
